On April 14, during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Edible Fungi Whole Industry Chain Innovation Expo (Xiamen), the 2024 China Regional Brand Value List for Edible and Medicinal Fungi was unveiled. Four regional brands from Lishui—Longquan Lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum), Longquan Lingzhi Spore Powder, Longquan Black Fungus, and Qingyuan Shiitake Mushroom—were included in the prestigious ranking.
The list was jointly released by the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce and other authoritative institutions, evaluating 164 “National Geographical Indication” edible fungi brands across eight categories, including shiitake mushrooms, wood ear fungi, lingzhi/sanghuang (medicinal fungi), and matsutake/truffles. It represents a comprehensive, systematic, and scientific assessment of regional edible fungi brands in China.
According to the list, Longquan Ganoderma lucidum won the first place in the regional brand of the Ganoderma lucidum and Phellinus igniarius category with a brand value of 5.873 billion yuan, and Longquan Ganoderma lucidum Spore Powder ranked third with a brand value of 2.51 billion yuan; Qingyuan Lentinus edodes won the third place in the total list and the second place in the regional brand of the Lentinus edodes category with a brand value of 14.638 billion yuan; Longquan Auricularia auricula ranked tenth in the Auricularia category with a brand value of 2.228 billion yuan.
The edible and medicinal fungi industry is a traditional, pillar, and wealth-driving sector in Longquan. In recent years, the region has earned 14 national accolades, including “China’s No. 1 Lingzhi Hometown” and “China’s Black Fungus Hometown”. Both Longquan Lingzhi and Longquan Lingzhi Spore Powder have been granted National Geographical Indication Product Protection, while Longquan Lingzhi and Longquan Black Fungus were listed among China’s Premium Agricultural Products and Zhejiang’s “Top 100 Local Specialty Products”.
Currently, Longquan has established a 571-mu (38 hectares) log-cultivated lingzhi conservation zone and designated an 800-mu wild lingzhi germplasm resource conservation area. It has cultivated new varieties such as “Longzhi No. 1” and “Longzhi No. 2”, forming a “1+N” fungal production system. In 2024, the output of log-cultivated lingzhi reached 150,000 cubic meters, producing 2,500 tons each of dried lingzhi and spore powder, with an output value of 700 million yuan. Additionally, 171 black fungus demonstration bases (each over 10 mu) have been established, along with a liquid strain industrial park, a short-bag processing and mycelium incubation center, and a substrate production factory, effectively driving the expansion and quality improvement of the black fungus industry. In 2024, output reached 158 million bags, a year-on-year increase of 16.2%.
Meanwhile, Longquan has explored and developed diversified products, innovatively creating over 30 refined products such as broken-wall lingzhi spore powder capsules, lingzhi liquor, lingzhi coffee, and lingzhi skincare products. It has obtained nine national health food approvals and 45 dietary supplement certifications. The city has also developed lingzhi cultural wellness centers integrating dining, lodging, tourism, entertainment, and education, such as the Jinxi Quanling Valley Lingzhi Park, Lingzhi Museum, and industrial sightseeing farms, completing the transformation from seed cultivation to dual-use medicinal-food products and the integrated development of agriculture, culture, and tourism.
Qingyuan Shiitake Mushroom is the “golden brand” of Qingyuan’s edible fungi industry. In recent years, Qingyuan has focused on technological innovation in edible fungi seed breeding, exploring an integrated “conservation-breeding-promotion” model, and successfully cultivated six shiitake varieties, including “241-4”, “Qingyuan 9015”, and “Qingke 20”. It has emphasized creating premium edible fungi zones with distinctive advantages, strong industrial foundations, high development potential, and significant driving capacity, forming a fully integrated industrial chain system covering “strain R&D — cultivation — processing — marketing — branding — cultural tourism” to enhance the quality and efficiency of the edible fungi industry. In 2024, the total output value of Qingyuan’s edible fungi industry chain reached 5.8 billion yuan, becoming a powerful engine for rural revitalization.
